The Road to Edinburgh Castle

Houses for Heroes’ Ann Hamilton outlines her fundraising march

“I am planning to walk from Inverness to Edinburgh Castle via Aberdeen and Stirling, so I can avoid the Forth Road Bridge (as I cannot stand heights). The journey is around 270 miles and if I average thirty miles a day I can complete it in nine days. I will have the privilege of being escorted by my dog, Skye, members of the Personnel Recovery Unit from Craigiehall, Service personnel from RAF Leuchars, the Chairman and other supporters.

It will be a huge honour to be accompanied on the last stage through Edinburgh by the President and patients from the Recovery Treatment Centre at Gilmerton. The President plans to lay a wreath at the Stone of Remembrance on the High Street to commemorate those heroes who fell in recent conflicts.

We have come a long way in recent years but still have some way to go to meet the demand which grows ever more urgent as casualty numbers increase. Help us help them.
